Juicy and absolutely delicious meatballs in the oven! Give this traditional greek recipe a try and add a Mediterranean twist to your plate! Biftekia is a famous greek dish served with some creamy low fat tzatziki. You can add zucchini to the meatballs mix to make it fluffier.
A very unique variation of the traditional fried Greek keftedes, served as a main dish, is light meatballs in tomato sauce ( soutzoukakia smirneika). Meatballs with baked potatoes (biftekia me palates sto fourno)

Ingredients
For burgers
500 gr. ground beef
500 gr. minced pork(alternatively, we can use 1 kg of ground beef)
1 large onion, finely chopped
120 gr. wholewheat bread without the crust
2 zucchini peeled and finely grated
4 tbsp. olive oil
2 tbsp. vinegar
1/2 tbsp. baking soda
1 egg and 1 egg white
1 tbsp. oregano
1 tbsp. dry basil
1 tbsp. thyme
2 tbsp. salt, freshly ground pepper
For the potatoes
1 kg of peeled potatoes, diced
1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 cup water
juice of 2 lemons
1 tbsp. yellow. mustard
1 tbsp. oregano
salt-freshly ground pepper
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients for the burgers. Put it covered for 30΄ in the refrigerator to combine the flavors.
- In a small bowl, mix the water, olive oil, juice, mustard, oregano, salt and pepper until a homogeneous mixture is created to pour over the potatoes.
- We shape the burgers.
- Preheat the oven to 180. In the air.
- Spread the potatoes in a pan and pour the mixture we prepared over them.
- Place the burgers on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45΄ with the pan covered.
- Then remove the foil and bake for another 25΄. In the middle of this time we turn them to cook well on the other side.
Notes
Cook’s Tip
Soda and vinegar make burgers fluffy. Parsley or mint may be added.
Doctor’s Tip
Potatoes contain vitamins C and B6, as well as potassium and folic acid. They give the feeling of fullness and satiety more effectively than other carbohydrate foods. We should avoid eating them fried because they develop acrylamide, a carcinogen.
