New Year’s fortune cake (vasilopita )

Must Try

This recipe for fortune cake (vasilopita) is for all those searching for a healthier vasilopita.

Raisins, nuts, apples, olive oil and brown sugar are combined into a vasilopita which is rich in omega-3 and antioxidants.

Like all nuts, walnuts contain good, healthy fats (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated) and offer valuable omega-3 fatty acids. In addition, they contain iron, selenium, calcium, zinc, vitamins E and B. Omega-3s, in particular, reduce oxidative stress in the brain and help send better signals to the rest of the body. Vitamin E and folic acid (part of the vitamin B complex) improve memory.

Also, omega-3 fatty acids are important for the development and proper functioning of the nervous system. These fats play an important role in regulating mood swings, as well as in dealing with disorders related to it.

There is evidence that eating nuts in moderation does not result in weight gain, despite the fact that they are high in calories. This is because most of their calories come from beneficial nutrients.

Finally, walnuts are a powerful ally to our digestive system, as they enhance beneficial bacteria that help with the digestion process. Also, the fiber in nuts provides significant benefits to our gut health.
